Cabgolin is used to treat certain hormone problems which can cause unusual or inconsistent breast milk production. Cabgolin works by stimulating the part of the brain that decreases production of prolactin, a hormone which causes milk production. This reduction of high levels of prolactin will usually improve any problems with breast milk production. Cabgolin can also be used to treat infertility, irregular menstrual periods, and other similar conditions. In some cases it is even used to treat Parkinson`s disease.
Before treatment is started a cardiovascular examination is usually conducted to check for valvular and other diseases.
Cabgolin is suitable for adult patients, but its safety for children has not yet been determined.
